Remote RLN Meeting: Tuesday, March 5th

Add to your Google Calendar

POST MEETING Notes:
Attending on Zoom: Neighbors Robert, Nick and Barbara; Designers Eric and Nahal; SFPA Rep Savannah

Welcome to Nick a new neighbor on Caine who has kindly agreed to take on Danielle’s RLN duties (as well as her house).

He will be going over our google groups lists, web presence and so forth and giving recommendations for changes and new additions.

Big thanks to Danielle for all she has done in this area and to Nick for all he will be doing.

Parcels 1 and 2 Improvements

Work has been completed by SF Landscapes, and they will have been paid by the end of this week.

Parcel 1 improvements included weeding, and some trimming; removal of the landscape cloth that was being counter productive;’ applying a thick layer of mulch and sheet mulching underneath it where possible; replacing the irrigation timer with a solar powered one and checking the lines.

Parcel 2 improvements included weeding; sheet mulching and a thick layer of mulch on top of that; leveling the path (ie removing jutting rocks where possible); installing steps – one group of 2 and one group of 4 further down the path with backfill of gravel.

Robert will respond to the neighbor who had some questions about the work that was done on Parcel 2.

We will evaluate the need for lighting and act accordingly.

March Planting Event – Mark your Calendars!

Now that the improvements have been made to Parcels 1 and 2, we can put in some plants.

A PLANTING PARTY will be held on Saturday, March 23 from 10am -12noon.  Meeting place is at the top of Parcel 3, where Majestic meets Tara.

Everyone is encouraged to spread the word!  There will be a flyer – Nahal is designing it, Robert is printing copies, let us know if you can distribute them.

Nick will send out an email blast.  Robert will personally contact Scott and Bill (who perhaps can bring some flyers to the Ale House clean-up crew). Barbara will invite Brett from SF Landscapes.

Kiosk Needs Updating

Outdated material needs to be removed and the space refreshed with new announcements – such as our monthly clean-ups. Nahal will design a cleanup flyer and Nick will take care of printing and posting it, with the addition of a QR code leading to (our website… Instagram?)

Spreading the word about RLN achievements

Savannah will put a feature in the SFPA newsletter regarding the Pacific Horticulture Futurist Award award we won, as well as the subsequent interview with Nahal and Eric by the International Master Garden Club.

Perhaps something about the award can go up on the kiosk also.

Exploring Grant Options

Robert met with Anne Palermo, a grant consultant connected to SFPA about the current state of giving,(rather tight) and what sorts of grants we might be eligible for.  This was helpful info, but at this moment in time, we are not in a position to pursue this further.  Hopefully, when we have more active members and when we know more about what’s going on with the development of the lot at 6 Caine, we can move on this.

This includes not applying for the latest round of Community Challenge Grant applications which will be coming up with a new director and scope.

Next meeting: Tuesday, April 2 at 7pm on Zoom

See you on March 23 for the Planting Party
